Kindercaminata

One of the challenges I had of this event was coming up with a fun activities for kindergarteners that related to our department. One of the activities I created was to find airports using little felt airplanes. For this, I created these by hand using different graphics, programs, materials, and a Cricut machine.

This year's set up. I represented both our Aviation and Travel Careers program along with the rest of the Career Tech Ed. I opted to add a "Where Would You Go?" map activity by providing a fabric map and stickers for kids to show where they would travel to.

Since 1996, Cypress College has hosted an annual Kindercaminata Event to honor the life of Cesar Chavez and his belief of introducing children to college early in their educational journey. Each year the school opens its doors to local kindergarteners to experience Cypress College and the many opportunities made possible through education. Departments throughout the campus come together to host an interactive fair for kindergarteners to participate in hands-on activities, see live demonstrations, and interact with our vibrant campus community in a positive and loving way.

For the last two Kindercaminata events, I have had the joy of being in charge of Cypress College's Aviation and Travel Career's table. This year, I expanded to hosting the booth for all of Career Tech Ed. From creating activities to coordinating with the rest of the college, I was in charge of all aspects of our booth. Each event we get roughly 1,000 kindergarteners coming through. While this event was not directly to help students enroll right away, I was able to teach and help inspire the next generation of students.
